I'm a little confused. People want to play games on this?

Would not be my first choice for gaming (not that I play games, but I did do flight sims once)

Is there anything else I should be concerned about? Maybe external monitor resolution? Movies?....I don't think so.

Big problem for intensive video stuff perhaps? but then again; an Air?

Some of the things I've seen people propose for the MacBook Air are completely ridiculous. There are Pro offerings currently available that meet these requirements. Yet, somehow people have this idea that the MBA should have Pro capabilities, a multitude of connectivity options, and ultra efficiency in an ultraportable form factor.

Doesn't that seem to defeat the point of the system being named MacBook 'Air'?

You are looking at the "evidence" but refuse to see it. No idea if it is accurate - but it is in print.

Sorry, refuse to see what ? You posted a TechCrunch article which refuted itself. You did not post an engadget story. What am I refusing to see exactly ? I'm reading the links you supplied. Supply links that at least support your position next time, and I won't "refuse to see it" like you say.

Next, your Engadget article was refuted. Hardly justification to propose as fact that apple "envisionned" anything as far as Thunderbolt goes.

I'm not questioning that they played a role, be it major or minor, I'm questioning the importance Chuppa is giving Apple which his choice of "envision". All history of TB points to the contrary. Your engadget article is the first to say that Apple envisionned it and it was quickly refuted.

    So again : Citation Needed.

Good thing I picked up a graphics card upgraded iMac instead of waiting :p

A bit disappointing in my opinion. If this happened a few weeks ago, it'd be nice but such a long delay - for what? I would also like to see those MBPs benchmarked.

Much as I like how the MBP looks, and know that it's a good performer, the lack of a good (gaming) graphics card won't tempt me towards saving money for one of these. x1600's all right, but not really enough, especially for the next couple of years.

NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN! He deserved to die.
What about those who lost their lives in 9/11? They probably deserved to live, but can you give them life back?

Like I said - the world needed him alive, and I wish they had just captured him instead. Nothing constructive comes out of cheering over somebody else's death.

Most of the Muslim students in my old high-school were cheering and having a great celebration after 9/11. That is the real reason why I have had problems with Muslims in general since after that day (though I must admit I was already sceptical after the Rushdie case). I know they didn't cause 9/11 by celebrating it after it had already happened... but would they have been cheering happily if I had died in a similar attack?

But if I were in NYC today, I'd probably celebrate with the rest, be it ever so wrong. I'm only human, and I love revenge, just like everybody else :D

While it is possible that it is a preventive filing, I think there are a number of indications that I mentioned that would suggest there is something more. However, it may be two years before we could even something if the tech isn't ready.

Frankly, I hope Apple never names anything "doPod." A marginal product of that name for anything would immediately be labeled "do-doPod."

Makes sense. The iPod is pretty much at an endgame; there's not really anything more they can do with it. Even the Nano runs something that looks like iOS now, and could run iOS in the future (hell, the AppleTV runs it, why not the Nano?). Indeed, last September's event was as much about iOS 4.1 and 4.2 as iPods as I recall.

Additionally, Mac-philes have criticised WWDC for being all about the iPhone lately; seems like a reasonable idea to kill two birds with one stone and shift the phone to the Autumn event, which would cover all the mobile hardware, and leave WWDC to software, ensuring enough time in the keynote for both OS X and iOS.

Moving the iPhone release to autumn could also help shift more units since it's not long before the Christmas shopping season. The initial sell-out of units in September would give way to about a month or so of calm before it all goes nuts again in November/December.

Only drawback is the people coming off two year contracts who won't or can't go SIM-only for 3 months, though given the amounts of money people have supposedly spent on the iOS ecosystem, customers jumping ship may be less of an issue for Apple than in previous times when a phone was just a phone.

    Thanks for the replies...

Ok, so AT&T definitely drops calls; that's a given it seems...but for current customers is the dropped calls enough of a pain to leave AT&T/iPhone and go to another carrier??

    Thank you,

    olimits7

I recommend trying it yourself.....you have 30 days to try it and see if you experience dropped calls in your area.

I have a baseless, out-of-left-field prediction that I think would increase the Mac marketshare even further:

I think Apple and Microsoft will partner to include Virtual PC in Leopard. I can see them doing it as a BTO pre-install (like iWork), either Virtual PC alone, or with an XP/Vista bundle.

I can see no reason why Microsoft would have such a hard time with a virtualization program when little old Parallels can do it so quickly. They state they are "working with Apple to determine the future of the Virtual PC roadmap" or something like that. It would allow Apple to leverage the new "big plus" of having Windows run in virtualization, but it would force MICROSOFT to support it.

    Everyone wins.

    Just a guess :)

    4. Per Bash, i never said it wasnt part of GPL/GNU - it is - I agree.

Look, I'll just ignore you. Your knowledge of all of this is lacking and now you're backtracking. To answer that specific point. Yes, you did say Bash wasn't part of the GNU licensing, quite clearly showing you have no understanding of the situation :

Bash is under the GPL license - not GNU. Never has been GNU

You must have seen a lot of people having fits to be able to make such a confident judgement. Personally, having only lived with a severe epileptic in the household for nine years, I would unhesitatingly defer to you expertise. What do I know?

We can't have an opinion (which is shared by others) it seems. Yeah, what exactly do you know?

You don't need Rosetta, iOS is Intel 64 native. You get a copy with Xcode called the Simulator.

The problem is that all iOS app store binaries are ARM and not x86. Devs could provide a second build for the simulator but they would have to do it for all of their old apps.

Maybe there will be a touchscreen MBA with both an intel and an arm processor that can run iOS apps in fullscreen alongside other Mac apps...

Evidently not too many folks watched all the segments from yesterday's post about FCP in one of the NAB discussions. Towards the end of that discussion, the biz dev guy from 3ality described a demo at Intel he attended. Recalling (a little fuzzy on this) he said Intel had set up a processor in one location, and the processors memory in another location ONE MILE DISTANT connected by ThBolt. They then ran some cpu/memory intensive demo. He was blow away that it ran super fast. Try doing that with USB.

All I can say is, "Thank God." Near term I get rid of tons of cables -- I have seven attached to my MBP on my desktop right now (external monitor, FW800 for external drive, Ethernet, FW400 for scanner, USB for keyboard, USB for printer, and audio out to external speakers). Long-term it is possible Thunderbolt will enable changes we can't envision right now.

My only issue is the name "Thunderbolt" and the weird lightening bolt (that to date has always meant "touch this an you die from electrocution"). Light Peak was nearly perfect IMHO. Oh well, I'm guessing some committee group came up with this.

    Not this year but soon.

Airplay enabled TV has always been Apple's dream and this is going to be very big for Apple.

The perfect entertainment solution. It's coming soon.
