Notice Steve is the only guy without wine?

Good! That means he takes his liver transplant (http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-10271526-37.html) seriously.

Very skillful in how Jobs face and legs are hidden. Im beginning to think the newspapers are right about his condition.

Also, pretty tasteless to dress the way he does. I'm not a fan of Obama, but if I were to meet him and sit next to him for dinner, I would respect the office enough not no dress in freakin' turtle neck.

    Jobs has ZERO class, none.

My parents are the same way. They hate Obama, and yet get offended if someone doesn't dress up for him. Funny how that works.

Yeah no thanks. Are you going to tax just individuals or corporations too? Taxing corporations that deliver goods would raise the costs of everything from milk to televisions.

How about if you need more tax revenue, you jack up taxes on imported goods? This will increase revenue, and maybe help prevent some of these companies from moving all their jobs to china.

The high vantage point and the stuffed animals on the table really make this shot. It's a picture with contrasts on many levels: white/black, obese/gaunt, tough/cuddly, nonconformist/mainstream, just to name a few. Very nice address to the theme, Keleko.

I would probably crop in tighter, since the empty chair and so much railing is not adding anything to the image. You could come in at the top, left, and right, and get us that much closer to this eccentric couple.

I completely agree about the similarities making a nice counterpoint to the differences. I probably wouldn't call this one a "literal interpretation" of contrast, though, since it goes so far beyond just being dark versus light. (I guess I think of contrast at its most basic as involving tonality.)

I agree with the crop. I'm not sure why I didn't think of it or do it before. I remember feeling the same way but then ignoring myself. :)

This is a "quick and dirty" crop using the crop tools in flickr. I would like more room on the right for the table. This is cropped to the edge of the empty chair, so to do a bit more room I'll have to erase the part of the chair that shows. I may try that when I have more time.

I havent been able to find out if the new HDD is proprietary or if MS stopped being dicks about that.
Nope, they're still being total dicks about it. It is removable still, but still does comes in a proprietary case. There is a panel on the bottom of the case that can be removed, and you can pull out the drive, and presumably replace with bigger ones down the road. I wish they would have moved to using regular 2.5" drives like the PS3, but I doubt I'll ever need to upgrade, so it really isn't much concern for me. I still have over 30GB free on my 120GB Elite's drive.

I had opted in on Blizzard's website, but I haven't seen anything about downloading it. I really just want to know if my MBP is going to be capable of playing it. Anyone have an original Core 2 Duo MBP with the 128MB Radeon X1600 thats tried it out?
How much RAM do you have? In my Late 2009 MBP, whenever I play in the 9400m(256 mb ram), it changes the quality to low, which is still pretty good IMO. Just more cartoony, thats all. Im guessing you will have to play on low though, but you *shouldn't* have a problem.

Thanks for the feedback. It was a challenging mountain to frame as it was the first of many other peaks off to the right. Here is a broader view of Jones Peak and the adjacent peaks to the right... to me this takes away the focus from the alternating snowy/dark areas of Jones Peak, and it also seems unfinished on the right:

    http://monogon.org/gfx/jonespeak2.jpg
    1/640s, f/7.1, 70mm, ISO 100
EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

Just for grins, here is a shot of the Collegiate Peaks at 10mm focal length... and it still appears unfinished on the right. I guess I should have done what my sidekick did and just take a panorama. :)

    http://monogon.org/gfx/collegiatepeaks.jpg
    1/320s, f/10, 10mm, ISO 100
    10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

I like the wider one a bit more but you are right it's still hard to make it look complete edge to edge. I like the panorama alot. Very nice range shot.

You know how you can turn your iPhone onto airplane mode? Most likely, especially with such a hot topic as this, you will be able to turn your RFID on and off, because as you remember, you are in control here. Phones also tend to be customizable. Right now based on size only (hd). Once again, with a topic like this, you will most likely be able to request no RFID in the phone.

Or, imagine this, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Simply go buy a different phone. The problem has been solved. Amazing.

If you're worried about the government know that you're a gaining weight because the pants your buying are larger than the last ones, maybe you should look at your self esteem, or maybe you have a weight problem. Try spending less time complaining on the internet and more time on your feet.

Either way, let them put RFID tags in. Lets advance to Japans level of technology. We here in America are so closed minded and paranoid. If you're so paraniod about the government knowing that you're buying things you shouldn't, don't bring your phone in the store, or don't do illegal activities.

And lastly, some of you are worried that advertisers will target people. As human beings (real live) we have freedom of choice. We don't have to listen to ads, and we can buy what we want. Develop a little self control. I don't want to see tampon ads when I am watching the game with the guys, it would be great if we had audience only oriented ads.

So, quit buying dirty magazines, bomb making materials, listening to every ad, and thinking that we have it all here in America, and then maybe embrace that Apple thinks like a human being a little more than the average corperation.

    Cheers Apple heads!

How much does the Gov pay you?
That was a very well written first post!
Am I worried about the Gov knowing that I've gained weight?
    Um no.
Read some history about our country.
Read the history about our Federal Reserve(Private Bank)
    Read the patriot act.

I am not worried about a thing. Go ahead, keep believing what you want.
I can see where our country is headed, I will not trust our government for anything.

    Hi Guys

I have got a netgear readynas duo with my itunes media folder and library files on. When i open itunes it all connects fine. But when i restart the mac and open itunes it says it cant find the library folder and i have to browse to it using the "choose library" option.

I know this probably means that the nas hasn't mounted but when i go into finder before opening itunes and click on the nas under "shared" it slowly logs in and then shows me all the files.

Is there anything i am missing or anyone else got experience setting this up with a readynas?

    Thanks

That seams like a great idea! But how can I use the mask and wand tool? Can anyone please teach me?

Either use the toolbar or the shortcuts to activate the MASK or WAND tool.
"M" for rectangular or circular masks, "L" for the Lasso tool and "W" for the Wand.

Or do you mean something else entirely? Have you checked the PSD I attached? Have you checked the plethora of tutorials out there on how to use PS? Have you checked the HELP of PS?

    Example: http://psd.tutsplus.com/

BTW, "seam" is not the same as "seem".

Single source hardware is an asset to server reliability, not a detriment. Compare linux uptimes to AIX, Solaris, or HPUX, and there's no contest. Having 1 company on the hook for everything helps make things run way more smoothly. The trend towards linux in the data center is a detriment that mirrors wall street, with short term costs overruling long term benefit.

That's debatable. Apple's reputation in business/enterprise support has never been stellar. Meanwhile, Google literally Velcro together their server farms, using cheap hardware that is vulnerable to failure at single points but is collectively resilient and efficient.

These are extreme ends of the spectrum that I'm using as examples, though.

Off-topic comment, but still related to external storage.

I received my Mac mini around noon, and I found something the previous (at least the GMA950 Core 2 Duo) model didn't support: USB flash storage works when connected to a side USB port of the aluminium Apple keyboard. My older Mac mini complains about lacking power via that USB port but the new one works just fine!

Oh wow, the corded ones have a usb jack? I only have the wireless one. Neat!

It's winning! I've bought it five times myself!

Rage Against The Machine's Morello praises chart race

Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello has said that beating the X Factor single to Christmas number one will be a "wonderful dose of anarchy".
A Facebook group which aims to get the band's 1992 hit Killing In The Name to the top of the festive chart has attracted more than 750,000 members.
Current figures show the song has sold 175,000 copies, compared to 110,000 for McElderry's single, The Climb.
Morello told BBC 6 Music the support for his song was "heart warming".
    'Unexpected windfall'

He told the station's breakfast show that the "rebel anthem song will transcend the Christmas holidays".
He added: "The one thing about the X Factor show, much like our own American Idol, is if you're a viewer of the show you get to vote for one contestant or the other, but you don't really get to vote against the show itself until now."
He added: "It's this machinery that puts forward a particular type of music which represents a particular kind of listener.

"There are a lot of people who don't feel represented by it and this Christmas in the UK they're having their say."
The guitarist said the single's position as a Christmas number one contender was an "unexpected windfall" and he plans to donate some of the proceeds to a charity which helps children progress their musical careers in the UK.
"My hope is that one of the results of this whole Christmas season is there'll be a new generation of rockers who will take on the establishment with the music they write."
Meanwhile, in an interview with music magazine NME, Simon Cowell - who is behind the X Factor single - said that the ITV1 show had "done everyone a favour" by adding some life to the festive charts.

"I think we were getting to a point where [the Christmas chart] was all becoming like The Millennium Prayer, and I just didn't like that song."
"I think we all have this belief that the Christmas number one was just amazing, a real special occasion, but actually when you look at them over recent years, it was Bob the Builder one year, Mr Blobbythere's a tradition of quite horrible songs.
    "I think I've done everyone a favour.
"Shows like Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor have actually got people more interested in music again, and are sending more people into record stores. We haven't seen this kind of uplift in years."
McElderry's single has been available to download since Monday, but physical copies go on sale on Wednesday.
Record industry trade magazine Music Week said the release of the CD single was likely to give the X Factor winner "a massive boost".
"While the singles market is now overwhelmingly made up of download sales, X Factor Christmas singles traditionally sell strongly on CD," it added.
In recent years, winners of The X Factor have eased their way to the top of the Christmas chart. Last year's winner, Alexandra Burke, scored the biggest-selling single of 2008 with her cover version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.

Sounds good. If I crash my machine on the way, I'll have this to take care of it. In my opinion, OS's should come on DVD until the time, you can reinstall them from any kind of crashing by booting in as root in the safe mode.

First other organizations offer abortions as well. So I'm not sure what your logic is getting at.

Second PP was not started by the KKK.

Finally, I don't know if what Abby Johnson is saying is true but if abortions are truly going on at a magnitude that she suggests and PP is illegally funding them, I don't know why she's the only firsthand source.

I dont know how many of you guys actually have firsthand experience with PP and how many are just doing the keyboard jockey thing but I've been in 3 Planned Parenthood waiting rooms. Those places are always packed with women. It'll be raining and the place won't open for another hour and there will still be a line outside. From looking around, I have never seen any woman there with a late term pregnancy. What I did see were a lot of women - usually from high school to mid-20's, lower income, probably no health insurance. Since my high school days, PP has always been the primary resource for testing and/or contraception. Through their counseling, which is actually pretty effective, it's also one of the best resources to learn how to be sexually responsible.
Margaret Sanger had "interesting" views of minorities
    That's a little simplistic don't you think?

One would assume that you'd also be pro gun control, pro universal healthcare and anti military if not "diminish[ing] that asset" was truly so important to you.

Somehow, I doubt that you're consistent in your stance.
Pro-gun control (okay on hunting rifles/shotguns, no on automatics and mandatory gun safety training for urban possession). Pro-universal healthcare. The military could be a lot less involved internationally and still maintain Pax Americana.
    I am that consistent.
Who says people are the greatest asset? Do you know what happens when bacteria overwhelms its environment? Have you ever heard of too much of a good thing? ;)
I also advocate for a simpler lifestyle
    Well, Cao Cao for one.

So I'm eager to hear of all the political programs he suports that enhance the probability of health and livelihood for all people, lest one of those precious assets suffer an untimely demise.

Cao Cao must be a big proponent of speed limits, helmet laws, OSHA, the FDA, the EPA, government regulations, etc.
Well to Marxists people are the greatest asset and in a way in capitalism too.
Yes, I support speed limits, helmet laws, OSHA, the FDA, the EPA.
I call fake photo. Just look at the "photo credit: registeredmedia.com" slapped on bottom right corner.

From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Sanger) (because that's the fastest way for me to search this little piece of history)

All she did was give a speech on birth control to women in that organization.

Oh, and how are people (especially the very young) going to know about consequences if they are not properly informed of consequences and dangers? Are you (CaoCao) proposing that they know of these things after the fact. After teens have already gotten pregnant because they didn't understand and were told about birth control and what it does. Are they told only after contracting an STD from an infected partner who didn't know that he/she was infected.

I know it is probably shopped, I was using that image to represent Margaret Sanger's views on eugenics and treatment of minorities.

People need to be adequately informed of consequences and dangers, it is vital to discouraging them.

eawmp1, have you done both? What is easier, a couple hours of pain or eighteen years of hard work?

I love how in 2009 Planned Parenthood did 332,278 abortion and 977 adoption referrals, that's like 340 to 1
