Is Apple thinking that SD cards are going to become the new "floppies"?

    ...
Plus while rewriteable CDs exist, they are pricey and most people don't use them.

Re-writable optical media was only useful when the price of non-rewritable media was still non-trivial. When the cost of an optical disc is $0.10 in bulk at retail, people stopped caring considering how long it took to "erase" the disc for re-use.

I'd say around 2003 or 2004 is when I had long stopped caring about re-writable optical media. Especially considering that photo-reactive dye was prone to degrading over time, rendering the data unreadable.

The main issue with SD and most removable media is still transfer rate and access time. Although you *can* boot off of it, most mobile hard disks still handily trounce SD media. Granted, I'd expect SD and other removable flash memory to pass all spinning rust in due time.

So yes, Microsoft server is so successful because its just the best.

Yes, the best at multiplying it's installed base number by just the fact that it requires so much redundancy. ;)

Let's not even get into licensing... CALs, Per computer, Per user, Per what now ?

Everyone is dressed up but Steve....awesome.

He did wear a tux to the oscars at least.
That's pretty interesting, I would find it more PR-Stunty to see him in his Steve outfit at the Oscars than at a Dinner with one of the most important people of the world.

Push works AWESOME on Kerio Connect 7 to the iPhone, 6 worked great also. It uses an outlook connector for it's black magic. Email are generally pushed to and appear on my iPhone within a second of hitting the server.

Before SLS I used mail server software on linux. The general idea was that Apple promoted SLS as THE server to use with an iPhone, which apparently isn't completely true. I don't think I want to pay a yearly subscription for another mail server again.

Just saw this thread, so I figured I'd share some knowledge (been gaming for 8 years).

So the reason why people are avoiding these things like the plague is because they STINK. The Intel chipsets ARE more powerful than the NVIDIA 320M, BUT, that doesn't always equal better performance.

Game developers usually design games on nvidia chipsets (Hence, "Nvidia: The way it's meant to be played) slogan.
Although the 3000HD shows better specs, it's been proven to perform worse in game. The reason being that the drivers are total rubbish. Until they can improve the drivers, it's a downgrade. But then again.............who in their right mind would try and game with a laptop!? ;)

    You're joking right?

I have always gamed on laptops - M17x, M11x, MBP, VAIO Z... list goes on and on. Add the Air to that list now. The 320M is a very capable chip and it can play many modern games at medium settings smoothly.

The way you describe laptop chipsets makes you sound like you've only ever tried laptop gaming with a GMA500 :p

I'm embarrassed for him at the moment, for the way he's acting like a spolit 10 year old kid, going on about Obama's birth certificate and college degrees. Has he got nothing better to do?

no, he doesn't. and thankfully it should mean that he'll have no chance of getting anywhere near being President.

Amazing, and then what? Maybe use it twice in your machine's life?

You have to have a standard frame of reference which is a 35mm sensor size.
That's correct, but you're not using this standard of reference properly: no manufacturer uses effective focal lengths to refer to lenses for dslrs (e. g. it's a 17-55 mm f/2.8 lens and not a 27-88 mm f/2.8 (equiv.) lens), be it a lens tailored for crop lenses or otherwise, but always the physical focal length. I think this is where your misunderstanding lies. This means a full frame lens and a crop lens with the same focal length with produce the same field of view on the same body. A 17-55 mm lens set to 50 mm will produce the same field of view than a nifty fifty on a crop camera (say, a 7D or a 40D).

Note that very often, this is handled differently on compact cameras where you will often find effective focal lengths rather than actual focal lengths, the reason being that sensor sizes can vary quite widely between models.

I think this mentality is a direct result of the growing income gap in the US. If you pay the peons (lower and increasingly middle classes) less, any tax at all is going to hurt them. When the economy contracts, take away more of what makes a civil society civil and ramp up the continual but false idea that we're overtaxed...

It's time to take back the asylum.

    -I'd quite like a slot to attach a laptop security cable;

-SD card slot would be nice on the 11"

-I'm not fussed about the Backlit keyboard, i'd rather keep the slim form factor.

It looks like they are right outside of an Apple store!

Actually this is not the Apple Store. The Apple Store is further down University Avenue opposite a Borders (at least for now). The Rumor is that they are thinking about moving to another location on that street.

If the goal of Apple software is to sell Apple hardware, wouldn't it make more sense to give the airplay licenses away rather than trying to sell them?

It's clear that California, Texas, and Washington all have bad deficits. Two of them have 0% income tax while one has 10.6%. What conclusion do you want me to draw from this?

I don't want you to draw any conclusion. I was simply trying to correct what I thought were some misconceptions about California.

You're right that this state does have one of the highest deficits and tax rates for high incomes. However, if you look at the figures, despite the tax rate, Californians still earn more per capita on average than Texans. If you're looking to save money, it doesn't necessarily make sense to move.

Look at this chart (http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxdata/show/482.html) from the Tax Foundation. Texas's total tax burden is 7.9%, 1.9% lower than the national average, yet Texas's per capita GDP is $40,498, $2,041 below the national average. Obviously their lower state tax burden doesn't equate into more wealth for the individual. There are other factors involved.

I used one for myself and I'm JJJ.fff on Battle.net.

Here's how to get my second key:
Follow me on Twitter (@JustinFreid), and @reply me with why you should get it. I'll give my extra key to the person who convinces me he or she most deserves it.

    There are 3 stipulations:
