The .mac account is a bit expensive and iDisk is just annoyingly slooooow.
However, it does work and my home Mac and my road warrior laptop stay right in sync with each other.
The original start of the is thread was about transferring four gigs of data. I love iChat for that and all of its other features. It seems that Apple is going to build a whole new world around iChat in Leopard. I look forward to it!

What about regulations to protect the consumer from those that find loop holes to make big bucks....

Parents need to do their part, but government needs to try to protect from the greed that that brought us to the mess we are in today....

Are we really comparing looking into in-app purchases with the crimes committed by Wall Street? Wow.

This is a 100% parental issue. As for Apple, the least they could do (and it might be there) is to post a video teaching parents to use parental controls.

$1.12CAD per litre, which, depending on your definition of a gallon, works out approximately to $4.64US per gallon.

That's pretty good. It keeps going up for us here in Vancouver...

Ugh, outlook syncing to Exchange 2010 is still slow. Emails hit my iPhone instantly, as well as Outlook 2010. As for the Outlook it takes up to 30 seconds. Maybe they need to improve EWS???

The height was my way of not being seen while taking the photo. I could have taken it at the same level they were, but I'm almost sure they'd have seen me doing it. If I hadn't found the higher vantage point I probably wouldn't have taken a picture of them. I'm glad I did and that it is well received (so far). :)

Then I hope for your sake that they aren't MacRumor regulars. :D

Very, very slick. Only problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to flag something as junk, or modify the buttons/icons at the top to flag/junk, ec messages. Any pointers?
I don't think you can. But I thought .Mac already has server side spam filters? Maybe it doesn't?

BTW seems to work fine for the most part on IE7, with a few rendering glitches.

Yes, MacRumors has it's own IRC, but which one?

http://www.macrumorslive.com/irc/login/ says it's irc.macrumorslive.com and the post you refferenced is irc.krono.net (which doesn't work BTW) the post you linked to was from 2003.

    krono is the server

Unfortunately, I doubt it will change anything regarding our domestic panicking or foreign military intrusions.

I wonder about the 'domestic panicking' actually. So much of it was fear driven and we've just killed the boogeyman, will the American people remain willing to submit to 'nudie' scanners, shoe checks, and fingernail clipper peculation.

It's not like Obama injected the name of Osama Bin Laden to justify sending drones into Libya a couple of weeks ago.

Sure, but going into Libya wasn't for the same reasons we went to Afghanistan, rather it's the reason we went into Bosnia; we're using military force to keep a dictator from killing his own people. It's a different mission with different moral arguments.

The death of the dollar/US economy, not the death of Bin Laden, will end our ongoing wars, whether those wars be abstract wars "on terror," or actual, needless invasions halfway around the world.

    There's some truth to this.

Thanks AidenShaw. Good idea. I need to get familiar with the BART. You are right about no traffic related worry. I will also consider taking it to get to the hotel instead of taking a cab. Thx.

I thought it was revolutionary - the idea that you always start with a template and never with a blank document. I thought - wow, all these years and Microsoft didn't come up with this?

But after trying to use it, it was non-intuitive and I gave up after about 10 minutes.

Word does actually start with a template rather than a blank document. Its name is normal.dot and you can change it anyway you like (put some formatting, text, headers and footers on it ...) and save it. Its a template like any other Word template you can create or use.

I believe both the current versions of Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro can edit 3D.

    Lethal

Ohh, Good call about Adobe Premiere Pro. It certainly can and seems the most price friendly option.

The current FCS can edit 3D with the Dashwood stereo 3d toolkit plugin!

    Sweet mother, $1,500 plugin!

What are people's thoughts on Sony Vegas Pro? I could run either parallels or bootcamp and my iMac more then fits the bill for these programs (27" iMac 2.93 i7, 12GB of Ram, 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5750)

Seems like a much cheaper avenue? Though I can probably find a good deal on Adobe Premiere Pro

For both the pro's and consumers who are thinking about 3D, here is a great video from Adobe:

going to get there at about 1730; coming to london from uni by train, lectures finish at 4ish, just want to get a tshirt; already ordered lepoard online.
doubt there's going to be a massive queue, and its closed between 4 and 6pm, so 5:30 sounds like a sensible time to me.

how about meet by the computer with macrumors up on the screen?? preferably on the dual 30" ones.

That is actually a good idea make sure people can see the screen :P Somewhere near the top of the stairs.

Hey everybody, I'm curious if anybody knows of any programs on the Mac that can edit 3D video. I know iMovie is a no go and I'm doubtful that the FCX will support it, seeing how we barely support Blu-ray as it is

I'm open to all programs and price ranges, though for my own personal need, I'm not talking shooting with an EPIC RED or something, more consumer, $1,500 camera's which really are just filmed in 3D (not giving you actual control like Pro camera's).

Reason I say is, I would love to transition to that format or offer the option, even if it means saving the 3D footage for now on a server and eventually getting back to it (that is if the camera hopefully shoots in both formats at the same time...)

So any thoughts would be awesome.

    1. the A5 is more than a minor spec bump - it's a serious spec bump.

Not enough to justify the non-inclusion of LTE/4G.

Two years from now, you'll be wishing you had faster access to streaming content (the mythical "cloud") than a bit more processing power to play a game that was designed to be playable on the iPhone 4 anyway.

    Hi red eye,

I was thinking about another little widget, or build this into the folding tracker. A widget that lets you know/or you can see if there was a post in one of the folding threads and click on the thread name and you go straight to the MacRumors distributed computing forums!

I think that no other company has their products come under more scrutiny than Apple. It is amazing. When folks say how the media just falls over Apple and praises them constantly -- it cracks me up. The media is just itching for bad news on Apple, and they are looking in every possible place to find it.

What shocks me is the level of forgiveness that competing tablets against the iPad are getting. Apple is so dominating the tablet-computing sector right now, that the media is just hoping for a contender. Motorola and RIM have both released "Beta Hardware (http://technologizer.com/2011/04/21/the-era-of-beta-hardware/)" to the public and many reviewers are being soft on RIM with even more being soft on Motorola. If Apple released such a product they would get blasted in the media with nobody offering forgiveness.

Case and point... Mossberg on the iPad 2:

"Also, the battery life, while very good, isnt as strong as I found it to be on the first iPad. In my tough battery test, where I played full-length movies until the battery died, with the screen brightness at about 75% and both Wi-Fi and cellular radios running, the iPad 2 just barely exceeded Apples claimed battery life, dying after 10 hours and nine minutes."

Keep in mind that Apple advertises 10 hours and Mossberg got better than that with the brightness setting 25% higher than Apple's default setting. Yet he had to reach to find something to complain about (e.g.: his iPad 1 test unit just happened to have extraordinary battery life -- keep in mind that most reviewers of iPad 2 got better battery life than iPad 1).

Gruber criticizes Mossberg even more in a post called "Bending Over Backwards" (http://daringfireball.net/2011/03/bending_over_backwards). Some of Gruber's points are arguable, but I think he is dead-on in many regards, especially his final quote:

"Stating the plain truth, that the iPad 2 has no serious competition as a mainstream consumer device, doesnt make you biased. It makes you accurate."

Apple, however, does not get to enjoy the luxury of forgiveness that the media affords to those who are not the market leader. The fact that folks are trying to quantify a thickness difference of 0.2 mm on some units, completely amazes me. I'm sure its within manufacturing specifications and I'm sure that not every single Black iPhone 4 is the same thickness, and yet it is news.

Oh and it falsely compares the fast MacBook Air to snail netbooks.

Apple definitely has the coolness going and the "halo" affect from its iPhone and iPads but in this tough economic time. Its hard to 30% and more for a Mac and you're not getting any much different in terms of hardware (other then a glowing apple logo)

WRONG. OS X is worth its value.

Good luck getting magsafe and other Apple exclusive features on a PC.
