Note it may be worth deleting http://guides.macrumors.com/index.php?title=Category:Terminal_and_CLI&redirect=no and http://guides.macrumors.com/index.php?title=Category:iPod_and_AppleTV&redirect=no

As http://guides.macrumors.com/List_of_Applications_Not_Compatible_with_Leopard is marked for deletion it isn't getting a new category.

And here people were hoping something would come along and topple the iPod. I had to check the Zune out for myself, it's basically dull-finished 1st Gen iPod clone. And now with iPod friendly skies, the bastardized iTurd will have very rough waters venture through. Go Apple. :D

    Wouldn't that be a mTurd? :D

Hey, who cares? Enjoy your pc, if it works for you thats great. I'll be interested to see how you feel about the "almost computer" after the 970 release... or the dual 970's...

Kind of reminds me of how Monster Cable went after everything that had the word monster in it, like the movie Monsters INC., Monster.com and others.

I'm so bored reading all the MHz doesn't matter blather. It does matter. When a brand new $2000 computer looks choppy using a brand new OS, then something is not right. It should be blazing on all basic functions. Flame away if you like, I see a lot of that on the Mac boards whenever someone happens to disagree with the party line but I'd wager I speak for a lot of potential switchers.

I guess what really blows me away is that Apple appears to be *purposely* cripppling their systems. From what I understand it's possible for Apple to upgrade the processor, bus, memory and other components without any technical difficulties.

Okay, you can flame away now -- but all I'm saying is there are a lot of potential switchers waiting to plunk down their hard earned cash if Apple would get it together. I see more and more Apple folks waking up, no longer satisfied to let Apple off the hook for getting further and further behind the rest of the computer world.

The best OS deserves the best hardware or at least a lot better hardware than being currently used. You want premium prices? Then give us premium hardware. Geez, drop Motorola if they can't deliver the goods and go with IBM (don't go with Intel or AMD to keep that Apple distinction). But pul-leeze do it soon. I want to buy!

Here's the problem right here with all these nonsensical rants. The G4 iMac is in now way jerky when it comes to window resizing. Whoever has posted this a)doesn't know whay they're talking about b) if they owned this iMac had something wrong with it.

All we're doing by pissing and moaning about Mhz is hurting ourselves an Apple and the whole debate with the PC switchers.

I don't know how many of you have actually spent time on a dual ghz mac but they are blazing fast. I currently own and am using a dual ghz/DDR and this thing flys with everything.

Just buy T-Mobile. Its cheap and compatible with the current iphone hardware. Looks like its worth around 10 billion. They could just write a check. Its actually right up apple's alley given their hostorical desire to control everything under the umbrella. They would obviously have to make significant investments to to get the network up to par with ATT and Verizon, but the returns are there. The iphone would be untouchable if Apple controlled the networks. They would change the whole industry. Better yet, Deutch Telekom wants to sell.

I don't know what to tell you. Couple days after I installed 10.4.7 , major issues happened on my quad. I end up with my computer at Apple for repair and 3 weeks later they figure out a combination of 10.4.7 and my GT7800 card were the issue.
Now, I have a new GT card and I use 10.4.6. The kernel comes once a week. So the problem in some way still persist. I hope the new 10.4.8 will address this issue. If not I'll go back to Apple and request a new computer in exchange for the one I have.
I don't know, I love my quad but I have to say I was pretty upset with this whole fiasco. I wish Apple had a loaner program for professionals using powermac. That way we can still productive while the computer is being repaired. I would not mind to pay a little more on applecare to get such a service.

I have a Quad G5, GeForce 7800 GT, 4 GB RAM, and have had Mac OS X 10.4.7 installed on it ever since the update was available.
I have had absolutely 0 problems with it!

If this 10.4.7 update would have had a known issue with our setup, we surely would have known by now.
You are sure no hardware can be faulty? Any 3rd party stuff? No bad RAM?

Not surpising at all. It's all about control of content and money.

All studios, rather music or movie have always hated the idea of selling content even though it makes them a ton of money. If they could do away with all of it, including DVD sells, they would. What they truly want is for you to pay a fee every time you want to view or listen to content and you never "own" anything period. Nothing physical at all to buy, just pay for it every time you view or listen.

    Exactly.

In this case, the license is only for delivery to a cable box for viewing on a home TV set. Not for any "mobile" device or otherwise...

I bought it in a 4 pack (I think) from Amazon a while back for scratches on my picture frame. The #2 did not tarnish around the outside of the scratch. But buyer beware, lol.... It worked for me.:D

I just want to say how much I both love and hate Macrumors. :)

Sent from my shiny new iPad just purchased from Verizon.

:) That is what my friend said about me. I turned him on to this deal and he bought one.

everyone WILL have to install both updates, you can not update the SMC until you update the EFI, the SMC wont even show up in Software Update until the EFI is done

also, i did the SMC update, and the fans are so freaking loud, i mean LOUD

Do you mean "whilst" the update is happening the fans run at full speed, or after the update applys your fans are stupidly loud?

With a pending order of the mac pro, the last thing I wanna go through is powermac G5 fan hell again......

As much as I would like to have .Mac and be able to sync my data, I still can't justify $99 for 1gb of web storage. Hopefully the Apple/Google alliance has some impact regarding the pricing of Apple's web services.

I'm glad I have Gmail and its 2.309843598745398745987345gb of storage!:D

I'm hoping the acquisition of that data center results in more storage for .Mac users... at some point in the near future (doubtful).

I have been a .Mac user now for 4 years. The storage limitations are embarrassing. All I use it for is Syncing between multiple Macs - which is handy but hardly a justification for the $99 price of admission.

This gave me the idea of a combined AppleCare plan. Since Apple is pitching their mobile computing products in three major categories: iPhone, iPad, and MacBook - it would be really cool to offer a combined AC plan for two or all three categories.

Like I have a iPhone and a MacBook - wouldn't it be neat to be able to buy a hybrid plan that would be about $20 to $30 cheaper than buying them individually?

Apple has a history of that... making their OS'es run faster than the previous one on the same hardware. At least that's what my experience has been with Panther, Tiger and Leopard preview.

Or they make the first releases fast, and then with each minor upgrade slow the system down a tiny bit and then when the next major one comes around everything seems faster the before..

or it might have to do with system caches and other things that are not yet bogged down because of extensive usage..

Alright, here we go Apple: I *will* buy a 13" MacBook Air on the day of the next refresh if it can have:

    - Core i5 processors (Won't happen)
    - SD card slot (Already has one)
    - backlit keyboard (Good chance it will have one)
    - integrated 3G/LTE (Its a laptop, not a cellphone)
    - 10-hour battery life to match the iPad (Don't see how the battery can get any bigger)

A tall order, of course, but one can hope.

Hey Apple: I'll still buy one even if you don't quite manage to fit in the last two (but please try to increase battery life anyway).

That sounds good enough to me and the millions who will buy it.

There isn't a single added feature listed there to make it worth the extra ~$100 to get a new iPhone instead of the identical iPhone 4 at discount.
